Structurally, all electricity meters of the 201 series are made in the same type of rectangular plastic case. Based on the model range, they can be electromechanical or electronic. In the first case, the drum acts as a reference system, in the second case, a liquid crystal display. Both the drum and the display are located on the front panel on the left, and on the right is a table with technical characteristics. If you focus on the price, then the cost of the counter is most affordable in the configuration with a drum reading device. Such devices are simple in execution, they have the smallest gear ratio of pulses per kW / h - 3200, sensitivity indicators are 10, 20 or 40 mA, power consumption - 2 W. In addition to an acceptable cost, the device is in demand for its reliability, overload resistance and long service life.
Among the devices of this series, the most popular models are Mercury 201 5 and 201 7 electric meters, which differ from each other only in overall dimensions and weight. The dimensions of the counter of the first model are 65x105x105 mm, the second - 66x77x91 mm. The difference in weight is 100 g (350 vs 250). If the differences in weight are not so significant, then the dimensions are important for the correct selection of the switchboard and ease of installation. The advantage of Mercury 201 7 is that it occupies not 6, but only 4.5 modules. This saves space in the shield, does not require additional cutouts and is aesthetically pleasing.
The electric meter can be equipped with a remote control (DU). To do this, a programmable module is installed inside the device, which reacts exclusively to receiving remote control signals. After installing the microcontroller, when you press the button on the remote control, the readings are interrupted, while electricity enters the room, and the indicator continues to signal that the device is operating in normal mode.There are no signs of external interference in the functioning of the devices.

To select an economical operation option, you need to turn the remote control into the undercounting mode. Wiring diagram
The Mercury 201 brand meter is connected without features, similar to other electrical energy meters. A detailed instruction is attached to the device, which must be studied, along with a passport and a connection diagram. The main thing is the correct connection of the phases and attention when connecting the wires (their marking is highlighted in different colors).
Before connecting Mercury 201, it is necessary to de-energize the system: turn off the machine, switch, power line. For safe laying of wires, special cells with perforated grooves are provided on the terminal cover. In these places, the cells break out, and a wire is inserted through the holes.
There are 4 positions for connecting the wire:
- The supply phase from the introductory machine.
- Phase load on the power supply of the premises.
- Zero wire from the introductory machine.
- Zero load wire to power the room.
The wires are connected only in this sequence.It should be remembered that the phase wire is white, and the neutral wire is blue.
For ease of use, the connection diagram for a single-phase meter of the Mercury 201 model is duplicated on the inside of the terminal cover. If the device is connected correctly, the red indicator light on it lights up.
Before closing the cover, check the correctness of the connection again, paying attention to the tightness of the connections: when tightening the clamps, the insulation must not come into contact. If this happens, its gradual melting is possible when the meter is under load.
The lid should be screwed tightly to the body, leaving no gaps.
For reliable and safe operation of the Mercury 201 meter, it is recommended to connect it through circuit breakers using an RCD - a residual current device. It should also be installed in the shield. To avoid problems with operation, the size of the wires must correspond to the rated current of the meter. You also need to pay attention to the correspondence in power and diameter.
Before installing the meter, you need to check its compliance with the requirements of regulatory documents. The passport must indicate:
- accuracy class;
- dates of manufacture and verification;
- number of entry in the State Register of Measuring Instruments.
It is necessary to check the presence of a warranty seal and a hologram confirming the authenticity of the device.
If you carefully study the diagram, follow the sequence of actions, safety rules, then you can install the Mercury 201 electric meter with your own hands. Then call an employee of the power company to check the correct connection and sealing of the device.The peculiarity of this process is that the filling holes are too small and it is difficult to insert a wire into them. Fishing line is not suitable for this, so only wire seals are used.
Pay attention to the date. On the counters of the Mercury 201 model, as well as on other control devices and devices, seals are installed with the stamp of the state verifier not older than 2 years. The disadvantage of the design of the device is the complexity of the visual control of the seal, tk. it is located under the terminal block cover.
